Welcome to SPCL 3850!

This course is taught using an asynchronous online modality. The course uses both this OER course site and Brightspace learning management system for both teaching and learning purposes. The readings are all available on this site, which is coordinated with the Brooklyn College library. While some of the readings have direct links, others require students to log in with their CUNY credentials to gain access to the readings via the online library database. Brightspace will be used to submit the journal entries and papers, and to take the final exam.

Please note that there will not be any weekly course meetings because this is an asynchronous online course. Nevertheless, there will be optional office hours each week on Zoom where you can join to ask questions or obtain clarification related to assignments, readings, etc. The lectures are already recorded and posted on Brightspace.

Students will need to follow the course outline and engage in the course activities each week. It is important to schedule a time to complete the tasks to avoid falling behind and losing points for late submissions. It is important to complete the modules in chronological order and submit the assignments by the deadlines. Once you finish the first set of tasks you can work on the next set. You do not have to wait until the due date to submit your assignments.  All the modules are available to you, but you should do them in order, as they build on the module that came before it. The final exam will be available during the last few days of the summer session, and you will have two hours to complete the final exam once you start it.
