This unit will begin with the 19th Century and the work of Edmonia Lewis. It will then explore the 1970s production of Faith Ringgold, Betye Sayre, and a section on women of the Black Arts Movement including Jae Jarrel and Youande Olu. It will end with work of contemporary artists like Kara Walker, Carrie Mae Weems, and Mikalene Thomas.
