About Unit 5: Craft and the Decorative

This unit ranges from the 18th and 19thCentury, from the use of pastels in the 18th Century to the women of the Arts and Craft Movement in the 19th C.  The issue of the decorative has been a feminist issue important to founders of second wave feminism, Miriam Shapiro and Harmony Hammond, and a key issue in the queer textiles of Hammond.  Recent studies on craftivism (Liz Collins Knitting nation for example)  have moved craft into the arena of global politics
