Access Guidelines for Library Resources and Services

Borrowing Materials

Users that may check out materials should present their Brooklyn College ID or other valid forms of identification such as your CUNY ID, or other college affiliated identification.

 

Books (print)

Print books on the shelves may be checked out by:

  • Active Brooklyn College students 

  • Brooklyn College staff 

  • Brooklyn College Faculty (active and retired) 

  • Brooklyn College Faculty family members (active)

  • CUNY students/faculty/staff 

  • Friends of the Library members - up to five books learn more

  • Adult Literacy, Audit, Brooklyn Lifelong Learner, Brooklyn College Academy, College Now, STAR, and Midwood HS students

  • Midwood HS Faculty

  • Visiting Faculty, Scholars and Researchers* 

    • *Faculty visiting scholars with a Brooklyn College faculty sponsor and approved through the Provost’s office will receive information about Library privileges through other channels. 

 

Note: Reserves materials can be checked out by any of the above, but preference is given to Brooklyn College
students.

Digital Resources (eBooks, online articles, databases, streaming media, etc.)

 

Available to all for in-library use on the Library's public computers

Guest access to use our public computers may be requested at the Circulation Desk (1st floor) 

 

Off-campus access is limited to 

  • Active BC students 

  • Active staff 

  • Faculty (active and retired) 

  • Visiting Scholars 

  • For other Library visitors including alumni we recommend exploring your public library’s digital collections.

Periodicals (print)

All visitors may read print periodicals in the Library. Please ask for assistance to retrieve periodicals outside our "Current Periodicals" display on the 1st floor. 

The following community members may also check out periodicals:

  • Active Brooklyn College students, faculty and staff
  • Audit ID holders
  • Visiting Scholars

Government Documents

Some non-reference print materials may be borrowed by those who are also able to check out print books. 

Many government documents are now online and available to the public. Links to many of these resources are on the Government Information subject page.

Album, CD, DVD, Video Viewing and Listening

Faculty may check out these materials at the New Media Center (2nd floor) for a limited period for use in class.  

All others may use these materials in the Library.

The Music Library has equipment for albums, and Library computers are equipped with disc drives to view or listen with headphones. Viewing rooms (faculty) and group study rooms (students) are also available for those eligible to reserve them and can be equipped with DVD or videocassette players.

Calculators

A limited number of TI-83+, TI-84+, and TI30x2s calculators are available at the Brooklyn College Library Circulation desk on the 1st floor for active students to check out. 

Interlibrary Loan (ILL)

Interlibrary Loan (ILL) is a service that obtains library materials that are not otherwise available to the Brooklyn College community.

ILL is available to active Brooklyn College students, faculty, and staff.
