This guide features some of the most helpful resources for students studying English at Brooklyn College.

Finding Books & eBooks

You can use OneSearch to search for books & ebooks in the Library's collections and order books from other CUNY schools.

Introduction to OneSearch (Video)

A quick how-to video about using OneSearch (51 seconds).

Using OneSearch for Finding Literary Criticism

OneSearch allows for easy keyword searching, but the "BROWSE" search can be particularly useful for more focused searching and for finding literary criticism.

Browse by subject:

To find information on a writer or critical interpretations of his or her works, click on the upper right-hand box labeled “BROWSE,” then select (via the dropdown) “Browse by subject.” Type in the author’s name (last name, first name) in the search box.

e.g.  morrison, toni

This will bring up a list of works in the Library's collections about Toni Morrison, including criticism. Note: Look for the Criticism & Interpretation subject heading.

Title and Author Searching via the BROWSE Feature

Browse by title:

e.g. Manual for Cleaning Women, to find out if the Library owns a copy of the story collection "A Manual for Cleaning Women" by Lucia Berlin.

Browse by author:

e.g. Burroughs, William to find works in the Library's collection by William Burroughs
