In light of the pivotal role that Latinos will play in the 2024 election, Geraldo Cadava will draw from his current book project to discuss how the past five hundred years of Latino history shape how we think about Latino politics in the present.
Geraldo Cadava is a Professor of History and Latino Studies and Director of American Studies at Northwestern University. He is the author of two books on borderlands and Latino history: Standing On Common Ground: The Making of a Sunbelt Borderland and The Hispanic Republican: The Shaping of a Political Identity from Nixon to Trump. He’s now at work on an overview of Latino history that focuses on the dynamics of colonialism, and how Latinos are both colonizers and colonized. He hosts the Writing Latinos podcast for Public Books, and is a Contributing Writer for The New Yorker.
