The learning management system transition is a major CUNY-wide effort that started in early 2023. All CUNY campuses have been assigned to a specific transition group each with its own start and end dates. Brooklyn College is in the last group of colleges to transition from Blackboard to Brightspace.

Our transition began last summer with a lot of preparation and training for the dedicated staff who set up and manage academic technology on campus. Next, the system was configured and documentation and training materials and schedule created.
Your professors have already been granted access to Brightspace, where they can work on their course sites. Faculty who will be teaching with Brightspace in the Summer I & II 2025 semesters started their training in November of 2024 to make sure that they are able to offer you -- the student -- the smoothest possible learning experience in the new environment.
Brightspace for students workshops will begin in the Spring 2025 semester. If you plan to take classes in the summer, you should begin familiarizing yourself with the new system as soon as possible.
Keep in mind that after the Fall of 2025 you will no longer have access to Blackboard. All of your course sites will be found in Brightspace, unless a professor chooses to use a non-CUNY learning platform.
