Statement, drafted by the MIT Ad Hoc Working Group on Free Expression and amended by the MIT Faculty through extensive discussion and debate, was adopted by the Faculty on December 21, 2022. In her "Letter to the MIT Community: Embracing freedom of expression in the life of the Institute" (February 17, 2023), President Kornbluth asks for a review of "existing policies on academic freedom and free expression (in Policies and Procedures and the Mind and Hand Book) according to our standard processes and determining what changes if any may be necessary to bring them in line with the final statement."
